Aloha, Julie,Those Fragaria vesca beauties look delicious! I had some seeds of the white type and the reds, but they got lost in the move a couple of years ago. I didn't know that the strawberry allergen called "Fra A1", which causes the red coloration during ripening, is absent in these white beauties. Here's a good link for all kine information on white strawberries of all types:http://strawberryplants.org/2011/03/white-strawberries/
That was a great link Barry! I had no idea these little gems were non-allergenic. They really do have a nice complex flavor but yes, they are small and there are not too many of them. They are labeled perennial but I don't know if that will be true in this climate. Definitely a 'condiment' crop!
I didn't know about the non-allergenic fact either. My husband can't eat them (sometimes he does and just puts up with the rash), but I'll probably have to order plants online. Never seen these in the local nurseries around here.
